Spooky and moody

Fall lighting and creepy cookie cutters to celebrate October.

Inspired by the staple dessert of Halloween, worms and dirt, I decided to amplify my idea by adding skeletons! I have had these dino cookie cutters with the skeleton imprint for years. I have not always mastered royal icing, but this year it all finally came together.
If your sugar cookies are loosing their shape in the oven you need to add in a freezer pit stop. My go to hack for perfectly shaped cut out cookies. Place all your cut outs on a plate/cookie sheet/anything flat that fits in your freezer and leave them in until firm. Usually only 5 minutes. From there, straight to the oven!

To bring out the feel of a setting Fall sun, I positioned my TT600 flash (with diffuser) center with my subject (table). I wanted deep shadows to allow a touch of mystery. In the image above I also experimented with capturing smoke with the subject. To do this I lit some dried sage, continuously waved it in front of the lens, while capturing rapid images. The sage provided more smoke verses lighting a match and blowing it out.
Product photography
Getting back into product photography I decided to get a few images with the gummy worm packaging. Mini packages to embrace trick or treating. And they were actually really good for a low sugar treat!
